Concerns About Modern Fitted Cloth Nappies

1. How hygenic are modern fitted cloth nappies?
2. Using antibacterial soaps
3. How much work is it?
4.
What about staining?

1.How hygenic are modern fitted cloth nappies?
Do you wear underwear against your private parts? Yes. And you wash it and wear it again don’t you? Yes. No matter how clean you are, your bodily fluids still ended up on that fabric that you wear over and over. The water and detergent washed them clean! Not to mention that the sun when you dried your undies, killed the germs. Yes, but I don’t poo my pants! (Id hope not!) Before you put the nappies into the nappy bucket prior to washing, you have to get most of the poo off the nappy. If you have used a fleece liner, or have a fleece nappy, the poos should just roll off into the toilet if they are more solid. If you have a young baby then you can just wash the goo, down the laundry sink. I hold my hand on the underside of the nappy and let the water do the work and don’t get my hands dirty in the process. Otherwise there is a great little invention called a ‘Little Squirt’ which essentially is a water spray gun that attaches to the inlet pipe on your toilet so you can squirt the mess straight into the toilet! These are not that expensive.

2. Using antibacterial soaps
You can add a soap such as canisten to your washing load weekly if you are that concerned, but honestly, you don’t need to.

3. How much work is it?
It will be too much work- **news flash:** BABIES ARE WORK. My kitchen is next to my laundry, whether I took a nappy to the bin, or to the laundry sink is not much difference. If I put the nappy in the bin, then I would have to take the rubbish out to the front bin daily as well, so that to me is more work. And frankly, with a baby you will be doing a lot of washing anyway. I wash the nappies with my babies clothes, so essentially I am not doing any extra washing by using cloth, because I would be doing that load to wash his clothes anyway. By using the modern cloth nappies, there is no annoying fluff getting over everything as there is with using flats.

4. What about staining?
None of the nappies that I have have any stains on them. When your nappies are washed most of the marks come out, and what doesn’t, when you hang them out to dry the sun works on removing stains as well. I never let my nappies become dry when soiled so the stains don’t ‘set’.
